Palm tree patchwork print dress for a Miami vacation by Sandhya Garg

Palm trees, Art Deco pastels and a little bit of glamour: Miami dressing in one frame.

Quick Answer

For a Miami vacation, pack breathable printed dresses and kaftans for the heat, a cover-up for the beach and pool, flat sandals and sneakers for Wynwood and the Art Deco District, and one or two showstopping dresses for rooftop bars, dinners and nightlife. Miami style is bold, colourful and a little glamorous — it's the one city where more colour is always the right call. Add a light jacket for air-conditioned restaurants.

Miami doesn't do quiet dressing. It's a city of pastel Art Deco façades, turquoise water, murals on every wall and dinners that start at nine. A Miami suitcase needs to handle a morning on the sand, an afternoon in a gallery, cocktails at sunset and a late night out — usually all in one day.

As a Project Runway designer who has spent years designing resort wear, vacation dresses and evening pieces in sizes XS through 3XL, Miami is one of my favourite cities to dress for. This guide covers when to go, what the fashion press says about Miami style, seven outfits for seven Miami moments, packing rules and twelve pieces from our newest collection.

If you can, plan around Miami Art Week. Art Basel Miami Beach 2026 takes place December 4–6 at the Miami Beach Convention Center, with VIP days on December 2–3 (Art Basel), and the wider Miami Art Week of satellite fairs, parties and openings runs from November 30 through December 6. It's the most stylish week of the year in the city.

Miami Style, According to the Fashion Press

🌴 Bold Prints, Resort Colour

Reported by The Zoe Report

For Art Basel Miami Beach, The Zoe Report has long recommended standing out from the chic crowd with bold prints and vibrant colours inspired by resort collections — from gallery visits to beachside cocktails.

🕺 The '70s, Again

Reported by MR PORTER

At Art Basel Miami Beach, MR PORTER found the 1970s firmly back on the street-style scene, and highlighted outfits built around one statement piece.

✨ Opulence for Evening

Reported by Who What Wear

Fall 2026's runways embraced brocade, embroidery, tapestry and velvet, with pieces that feel like modern heirlooms (Who What Wear). In Miami, that means embroidery and drama for dinners, galas and yacht nights.

💜 Colours That Pop

Reported by Who What Wear

Royal purple, cobalt and red are among the biggest colours of fall 2026, according to Who What Wear — and nothing photographs better against Miami's turquoise water and pastel Deco walls.

7 Stylish Outfits for a Miami Vacation

01

Art Deco walk on Ocean Drive

The Versailles pink shirt dress, belted, with flat sandals and oversized sunglasses. Pink against pastel Deco façades is the Miami photo.

02

Beach & pool days

The Duchess kaftan over your swimsuit — a cover-up that also works for lunch at the beach club. Add a straw hat. Shop cover-ups.

03

Wynwood Walls & murals

The Louis halter midi with clean white sneakers and a crossbody. A bold print holds its own against the most colourful walls in the city.

04

Design District shopping

The Queen wrap midi with the cropped Dauphine jacket for the air conditioning. Polished enough for the boutiques, comfortable for a long afternoon.

06

Sunset rooftop cocktails

The Carolina one-shoulder maxi, gold sandals and a slick of bronzer. Pink, purple and cobalt that glow at golden hour.

07

Miami Packing Rules

🌡️ Breathable Everything

Viscose, cotton, linen blends and loose silhouettes. Humidity is the enemy of structured, clingy fabric.

❄️ Bring the AC Layer

Restaurants, galleries and shops are cold inside. A cropped jacket or kimono saves the evening — and looks deliberate.

👡 Two Shoes, Minimum

Flat sandals or sneakers for walking and the beach; one dressier sandal or heel for night. Leave the stilettos for the car-to-door nights.

🎨 Go Bold

Miami is the city for colour and print. Pick shades that pop against turquoise water and pastel walls. See how to wear bold prints.

Plus-Size Miami Vacation Outfits

Miami's heat calls for loose, flowing silhouettes — and they're the most flattering at every size. Kaftans, wrap midis and halters move with you and breathe in the humidity, and a printed maxi is as comfortable at a beach club as it is at dinner. Our dresses are graded to 3XL; shop plus-size resort wear or read our guide to chic plus-size style.
