Tropical Dresses for Women
A tropical dress is the one category where the print does all the work — and where most of what is sold is the same stock palm motif, bought from a fabric library, printed on polyester, and sold by forty labels at once. Every print here was drawn by hand in my own studio before it touched cloth. 102 pieces, $78 to $378, sizes XS to 3XL.
What separates a good tropical print from a novelty one
This is the part I can tell you that a retailer cannot, because I draw these.
Motif scale against your frame. A single oversized palm leaf placed across the body reads as costume. The same leaf at a third of the size, repeated, reads as a textile. If you are shorter than 5'5", a smaller repeat will almost always look more expensive on you — the pattern has room to resolve before the seam cuts it.
How many colours are in the print. A cheap tropical print uses four or five flat colours. A good one builds depth with tonal variation inside each leaf — three greens, not one. That is what stops it looking like clip art, and it is also what makes it forgiving: a multicolour print hides sunscreen, a spill and a crease in a way a flat two-colour print never will.
The ground colour. Tropical prints default to white or navy grounds. A warm ground — coral, rust, marigold — reads richer in strong sun and photographs better against water and greenery, which is where you will actually be wearing it.
Where the print falls. On a wrap or a fit-and-flare, the pattern moves with the skirt. On a bodycon it stretches, and a stretched botanical looks wrong in a way that is hard to name but easy to see.
Fashion press has tracked the botanical shift the same way. Who What Wear's spring 2026 print trends feature a palm leaf print on a silk mini, their 2026 floral trends name watercolour botanicals and pressed petals, and their swimwear print report describes botanicals taking an artistic turn — motifs that feel contemporary while staying connected to nature. That is exactly the distinction between a drawn print and a bought one.
The tropical dresses to start with
Palm Tree Dress — $358. The one this collection is known for, and my most-viewed tropical piece. A full palm print maxi, 16 units in stock.
The botanical maxis — Antonia Green A-Line ($285), Marquis Royal Blue Off-Shoulder with embroidery ($328), Carolina Pink One-Shoulder ($265), Sahara ($338) and Habibi Halter ($358).
Kaftans, the easiest thing to wear in humidity because nothing touches your waist — Duchess Red and Taj Orange ($298 each).
Midis and minis — Pink & Purple Printed Wrap ($258), Louis Halter ($238), Sophie Green ($255), Bagh Orange Shirt Dress ($228) and Marrakech ($298).
The lighter end — Arena Printed Tunic ($78), Tara Blue ($78) and Scarf Print Resort Dress ($88).
Dressing for humidity, not just heat
Dry heat and tropical humidity are different problems and most resort advice conflates them. In humidity, fabric stops evaporating sweat and starts holding it. What works:
- Loose beats light. A thin fabric cut close is worse than a medium-weight fabric cut away from the body. Airflow matters more than weight.
- Cotton and viscose over synthetics. Polyester in 90% humidity is a sauna, which is the real reason a cheap tropical-print dress is miserable to wear.
- No lining. A lined dress in humidity is two layers that cannot dry.
- Skip the waistband. This is why kaftans and wraps win: nothing sits tight against the part of you that gets warmest.
Where you are going
Tropical overlaps with resort and cruise dressing, so the destination guides are usually more useful than a category page. What to wear in Cabo San Lucas covers beach to dinner dress code, what to wear on a luxury cruise maps every major line's dress codes, and the resort wear packing guide covers a full trip in fewer pieces.
If the terminology is the confusing part: what resort wear actually means and resort casual, decoded. And if you are comparing labels, I included the competition honestly in the best artisanal resort wear brands.

Sizing
Sizes run XS (US 00–0) to 3XL (US 22–24), and availability varies by style because each print is a short run — the size selector on each product page shows what is in stock, and the price shown there is what you pay at checkout. Wraps and kaftans are the most adaptable if you are between sizes.
Our models are 5'8"–5'9", so a maxi photographed brushing the floor will pool on a 5'4" frame. Check the size chart against your own measurements, and any style can be made to your length for $50 to $100 above retail. For what has 1X to 3X available now, see plus size resort wear.
Cottons and linens: machine wash cold, hang dry, press on the reverse. Scuba needs no ironing. Free US shipping on orders over $250. Afterpay available. Ships from Scottsdale, Arizona.

Tropical dress questions
What is a tropical dress?
A dress in a print drawn from tropical plant life — palm, monstera, hibiscus, bird of paradise, or a looser botanical in tropical colour. It is a print category rather than a silhouette, so it covers maxis, wraps, kaftans and minis equally.
How do you wear a tropical print without it looking like a costume?
Let the print be the only pattern, keep accessories to one colour pulled out of it, and choose a smaller repeat if you are petite. A single oversized motif placed across the body is what tips a tropical dress into novelty; a repeating print at textile scale does not.
What fabric is best for a tropical climate?
Cotton, cotton linen and viscose. In real humidity, fabric stops evaporating sweat, so airflow matters more than weight — a medium-weight cotton cut loose beats a thin synthetic cut close. Avoid polyester and anything fully lined.
Can you wear a tropical print to a wedding?
To a beach, garden or destination wedding, yes. Choose a maxi or midi in a drawn botanical rather than a novelty graphic, keep the ground colour away from white and ivory, and ask what the bridesmaids are wearing so you do not land on their colour.
Are tropical prints in style in 2026?
Yes. Botanical prints are one of the defining print stories of the year, with fashion press naming watercolour botanicals, pressed petals and palm motifs across spring and summer. The shift is away from flat graphic prints and toward painterly ones with tonal depth.
What colour tropical dress is most flattering?
One with a warm ground — coral, rust, marigold or deep green — rather than the default white or navy. Warm grounds read richer in strong sun and photograph better against water and greenery. Pick the colour you want near your face, since that is what people see first.
Do tropical dresses come in plus sizes?
The label runs XS to 3XL and prints are not restricted by size. Stock depth varies by style because each print is a short run, so the plus size resort edit lists what has 1X to 3X available now.
