Quick Answer
Plan around the Sagrada Família: cover shoulders and knees, nothing sheer, no beachwear. A dress with sleeves or a jacket over a strappy one is the easy answer. Wear flat shoes for Park Güell's hill, colour for the Gothic Quarter, and a midi with a light jacket for late dinners, which often start after 9pm.
My Love Gaudí print started with broken tiles. Gaudí and his craftsmen covered Barcelona in trencadís, mosaics of smashed ceramic, and the Sagrada Família's windows throw coloured light across the floor. I wanted a dress that did the same.
This is what to wear in the city that inspired it, from the one dress code you need to know to a 10pm dinner. If you've just read the print's story in Love Gaudí, this is where to wear it.
The Sagrada Família Rule
Plan your outfit around the one place with a dress code. Inside the Sagrada Família, shoulders and knees should be covered, nothing should be see-through, there's no beachwear, and hats come off. This visitor guide warns that people who don't comply can be turned away at the gate, and tickets aren't refunded. Check the official site before your visit.
Sleeves or a jacket
Cover Shoulders
A dress with sleeves, or a jacket over a strappy one. No halters or strapless inside.
Midi or longer
Cover Knees
A midi or maxi is the easy answer. Very short hems can be refused.
Or beachwear
Nothing Sheer
Lace jackets are fine over an opaque dress. Swimsuits and flip-flops are not.
Pack one jacket that covers your shoulders. It's the difference between seeing the Sagrada Família and seeing the gate.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a dress code at the Sagrada Família?
Yes. Shoulders and knees should be covered, nothing see-through, no beachwear, and hats come off inside. Visitors who don't follow it can be turned away at the gate, according to this visitor guide. Check the basilica's official site before you go.
What shoes should I wear in Barcelona?
Comfortable flat shoes or sneakers. You'll walk a lot, and Park Güell is on a hill. Save sandals with a heel for dinner.
What do people wear to dinner in Barcelona?
Dinner is late, often after 9pm, and people dress up a little. A midi or wrap dress with sandals and a light jacket is right for most restaurants.
Can I wear a halter or strapless dress in Barcelona?
Yes, on the street, at the beach and at dinner. Not inside the Sagrada Família or other churches. Bring a jacket or wrap to cover your shoulders when you visit.
