Where the Capsule Came From
The idea is older than it sounds. The term capsule wardrobe is credited to Susie Faux, who ran a London boutique called Wardrobe in the 1970s and argued that a woman needed a small core of well-made pieces rather than a cupboard of one-offs. In 1985 Donna Karan made the idea famous with her "Seven Easy Pieces" — a whole working wardrobe built from seven garments that all combined.
Karan's pieces were black, which made combining them easy. Summer doesn't want black. So the question becomes: how do you get that same everything-goes-with-everything quality from colour and print?

The Rule: Every Piece Shares a Colour
A capsule fails when you have a pink dress, an orange top and a green jacket that each look lovely and cannot be worn together. It works when there's a colour running through everything — a thread you can pull. The simplest way to guarantee that is to build from one collection, because the colours were chosen together before anything was cut.

Two Things to Add From Outside
I'd rather tell you now than have you find out on the first cold evening: Fes Fantasy is a collection of dresses and tops. It has no trousers and no jackets. Add one of each and the capsule is complete.
