Coachella Outfits for Women: Desert-Ready Maxis, Printed Minis and Layers for Cold Nights
Coachella 2027 runs Friday 9 to Sunday 11 April and Friday 16 to Sunday 18 April at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, and passes are already on sale. That is why this page exists in October: the people who end up photographed in something good are the ones who sorted it while there was still a full size range.
I design from the Arizona desert, so here is the brief in plain terms. April in Indio is high 80s to 90s in the afternoon and 50s after dark. There is dust. You will walk further than you expect, on grass and gravel. And you will be photographed, constantly, from thirty feet away. A Coachella outfit that works solves all four of those and still looks like you.
What Coachella actually looked like this year
WWD reported the 2026 festival as miniskirts, micro shorts, sheer layers and desert boho energy — crochet threaded with metallic and beadwork, suede jackets thrown on after sunset, and an ongoing Western revival of cowboy hats, oversize belts worn low and bandanas. Footwear, it noted, stayed grounded: flat leather boots as the go-to, practical for walking.
In WWD's trend forecast, stylist Jasmine Caccamo described the newer direction as “sheer layers, metallics, unexpected silhouettes” so that it does not feel “stuck in 2014 flower-crown territory”.
I agree with the second half of that completely, and it is the whole argument of this page. The flower crown is over. But the answer to it is not less fabric — it is more interesting fabric.
Coachella in your thirties and forties
Most festival clothing is designed for a twenty-two-year-old and most of it is sold on the assumption that the point is skin. If you are 38 with a job and a camera roll that lives forever, the brief is different and nobody writes for it, so let me.
Wear the same amount of effort and a different amount of fabric. A printed maxi photographs better in a crowd than a crochet bikini top, reads as a decision rather than a costume, and you can sit on the grass in it. Lead with print, texture and an unexpected neckline. That is Caccamo's “unexpected silhouettes”, done in a way you will not regret seeing on Instagram in five years.
Concretely: the Fes ($328) is a printed caftan cut on one shoulder. The Haveli ($258) is organic cotton block-print patchwork with one balloon sleeve. The Lily ($258) is a floral one-shoulder maxi with hand embroidery at the neckline. One bare shoulder does more in a photograph than a bare midriff, and it survives the walk back to the car.
Daytime: cotton, print, and room to move
The Jharokha ($298) is rust orange cotton with hakoba ruffle sleeves — a desert colour that does not show dust. Its sister the Samode ($298) is royal blue and has side pockets, which matters when you are carrying a phone and a pass for nine hours. The Gatsby ($298) is 100% cotton poplin and holds its shape in wind, which the polo field has plenty of.
For shorter: Marie ($278) with a hand-embroidered bodice, Versailles ($258) as a printed mini shirt dress, Amber ($278) in embroidered cotton linen, and Minara ($128). The Elsa ($228) is emerald with side slits so you can actually stride, and Char Bagh ($228) is a backless print that moves.
If you would rather not be in a dress at all, the blue ombré palazzo trousers ($198) are wide-leg cotton — covered legs, airflow, no chafing — with the Zaza organic cotton top (from $88) or the Dahlia ($167). More in trousers and tops and jackets.
The sunset problem, which is the one everybody gets wrong
The desert gives its heat back the moment the sun goes. WWD noted suede jackets going on after dark across the 2026 festival, and you will want the equivalent. A kimono or kaftan is the most useful layer at a festival because it goes on over everything without taking anything off. And this is where velvet quietly earns its place — the Gaudi wrap ($398) in printed teal and cobalt velvet, or the Margarita ($298), a midnight blue velvet jacket dress with a tuxedo lapel. Both are warm in a way cotton is not.
Metallics and things that catch the light
Caccamo's “metallics” and WWD's note about crochet “threaded with metallic and beadwork” both point at the same thing: at a festival that runs into the night, surface is what reads. The Alice ($298) is a black mini under a metallic gold, green and teal foil-print floral with a hem hung with gold sequin discs that swing when you walk. The Jewel ($258) is hand beaded on black net, and the Marquis ($328) is electric royal blue with hand-embroidered flowers worked in relief. See all the hand-embroidered pieces, or the one of a kind pieces if you would rather not meet your own dress at the Sahara tent.
Pool parties, and the rest of the weekend
Half of Coachella happens off the polo field — the villa parties, the brunches, the drive out. Printed cotton and a kaftan cover all of it, which is the honest reason to buy from a resort-wear designer for a music festival: these pieces have a life after April. The Habibi ($358) in Moroccan geometric print, Palais ($258), Azalea ($235) and the wrap dresses — Shahe ($258), Tiffany ($228), Mughal ($198), Poppy ($199) — all travel well. More in resort wear and maxi dresses.
Going to the other desert event too? The Burning Man edit is a stricter brief — more dust, no showers, and a real argument about what you should not take.
What I would not bother with
- Anything you cannot sit on grass in. You will sit on grass.
- New shoes. Wear them for a full day at home first. WWD had flat leather boots as the practical pick for 2026 and that is sound.
- White. Dust is not optional and it does not come out of pale cotton cleanly.
- A look that needs constant adjusting. If it rides up, slips or gapes in the mirror, it will do it all day in a crowd.
Sizing, shipping and timing
Sizes run XS to 3XL and the range offered varies by style, so check the size selector on the piece you want. My models are 5'8" to 5'9", so a hem that reads mid-calf in a photograph sits lower on a shorter frame. Measure against the size chart and see the plus size collection.
Orders are processed in 1 to 3 business days from Scottsdale, Arizona. US shipping is free over $250 and Afterpay is available. These are limited runs and the middle sizes go first — if you already have April passes, buy in the winter rather than the week before you fly. My packing list covers the travel part, and the garment care guide covers getting the desert back out afterwards.
Who makes these
I trained at the top fashion school in India and at London College of Fashion, then honed my craft at Alexander McQueen, Gucci, Alice Temperley and Liberty London before competing on season 13 of Project Runway, where I won two challenges including the Marie Claire Future of Fashion challenge. My work has been featured in Marie Claire, Elle, Cosmopolitan and Vogue Italia online. Every print here is my own, drawn from travel, made in limited runs — and I design them from the desert, which is the only reason I have any standing to tell you what works in one. More on where the look comes from in what bohemian style actually is, the bohemian lifestyle and dressing for a desert festival.

Coachella outfit questions, answered
When is Coachella 2027?
Two weekends at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California: Friday 9 to Sunday 11 April, and Friday 16 to Sunday 18 April 2027. Passes for 2027 are already on sale on coachella.com, which is why people start planning outfits in autumn rather than in March.
What should I wear to Coachella in my thirties or forties?
The same amount of effort, a different amount of fabric. A printed maxi or a cotton mini with a real waist photographs better at any age than a crochet bikini top, and you can sit down in it. Think print, texture and an unexpected neckline rather than less cloth. You will be photographed constantly and walking a very long way, and both of those reward a dress you can move in.
What is the Coachella dress code?
There is not one. What there is: a desert in April that hits the high 80s or 90s in the afternoon and drops to the 50s after dark, dust on everything, and miles of walking on grass and gravel. Anything that survives those three things and that you actually like being photographed in is correct.
What were the Coachella trends this year?
WWD reported the 2026 festival as miniskirts and micro shorts, sheer layers, crochet threaded with metallic and beadwork, suede jackets after sunset, and a continuing Western revival of cowboy hats, low-slung belts and bandanas, with flat leather boots as the practical footwear. Stylist Jasmine Caccamo told WWD the newer direction is “sheer layers, metallics, unexpected silhouettes” so that it does not feel “stuck in 2014 flower-crown territory”.
Do I need something warm for Coachella?
Yes, and most people learn this the hard way on the first night. The desert loses its heat fast after sunset and the sets run late. WWD noted suede jackets going on after dark across the 2026 festival. A kimono, a jacket or a velvet piece you can pull over everything is the single most useful thing in the bag.
What shoes should I wear to Coachella?
Flat and closed. WWD reported flat leather boots as the go-to in 2026, practical for walking and still right with the looks. You will cover serious distance on grass, gravel and dust. Whatever you choose, wear it for a full day at home first — a festival is the worst possible place to find out a shoe rubs.
Do these come in plus sizes?
Sizes run XS to 3XL and the range offered varies by style, so check the size selector on the piece you want. Models are 5'8" to 5'9", so a hem that reads mid-calf in a photograph will sit lower on a shorter frame — worth knowing if you are choosing between a midi and a maxi.
How early should I buy a Coachella outfit?
Earlier than you think. These are limited runs and the middle sizes go first, so something you see in November may not exist in March. If you already have passes, sort the clothes while there is still a full size range rather than in the week before you fly.
