Do you love color as much as I do? I am so enamored by beauty of cities when I travel, how a city engulfs one with all the magic. The architecture, textures, smells, people, stories, everything. Here is a list of few cities that are known for the color they most contain showing big blocks of color when looked at from a distance or huge amount of one color that covers and overwhelms you when you walk through them.
Jodhpur city has beautiful indigo painted houses. One gets a feel of walking through clouds when you walk through the blue streets of Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India. It is popularly known as Blue city and Sun city among people of Rajasthan and all over India.
Chefchaouen is a city in northwest Morocco which was found as a Kasbah in 1471. It is very well known for its blue-rinsed buildings. Chefchaouen's blue walls are a popular subject of interest. Among the many theories as to why the walls were painted blue, one popular theory is that the blue kept mosquitos away, another is that Jews introduced the blue when they took refuge from Hitler in the 1930s. The blue is said to symbolize the sky and heaven, and serve as a reminder to lead a spiritual life. However, according to some locals, the walls were mandated to be painted blue simply to attract tourists at some point in the 1970s.
Jaipur is also known as the Pink City, due to the dominant color scheme of its buildings. During the rule of Sawai Ram Singh I, the city was painted pink to welcome Prince Albert of Wales in 1876. Many of the avenues remained painted in pink, giving Jaipur a distinctive appearance and the epithet Pink city.
Izamal is a small and charming city, also known in the Yucatán as the Yellow City. Most of its buildings are painted a beautiful mustard yellow. It is also known as the City of Hills, that actually are the remains of ancient sun temple pyramids. The colonial cobblestone streets of Izamal are lined with mustard-yellow buildings, giving it a quaint mesmerizing feel.
Santorini is also known as Thera in Greek, it erupts with charm. Santorini is the island immortalized by poets and painters, thanks to its celebrated light, multi-coloured cliffs and picture-perfect sunsets. On this island all senses are magnified, a product of its many contrasts: black earth against whitewashed homes clinging to the cliffside, or wild volcanic sculptures against sleek Cycladic lines.
Tel Aviv, Israel or the white city refers to a collection of over 4,000 buildings built in a unique form of the Bauhaus style by German jewish architects. Tel Aviv has the largest number of buildings in the Bauhaus/International Style of any city in the world. Preservation, documentation, and exhibitions have brought attention to Tel Aviv's collection of 1930s architecture. In 2003, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) proclaimed Tel Aviv's White City a World Cultural Heritage site, as "an outstanding example of new town planning and architecture in the early 20th century.
Marrakech, Morocco is known for its red walls built by Ali ibn Yusuf in 1122–1123, many buildings were constructed in red sandstone during this period. This has given the city the nickname of the "Red City" or "Ochre City". Marrakesh grew rapidly and established itself as a cultural, religious, and trading center for the Maghreb and sub-Saharan Africa; Jemaa el-Fnaa is the busiest square in Africa.
