Palace Miniature Print
I designed this in my Los Angeles studio during lockdown, dreaming of travel. The print comes from the painted walls of Samode Palace near Jaipur: panels of marigold, emerald, violet and coral, with birds perched in arched palace windows and florals borrowed from miniature paintings.
The two pieces
The Mahal Maxi Dress is the one that carries the whole story — a floor-length dress that lets the palace panels run top to bottom, so the birds and arched windows read the way they do on a wall. The Miniature Top is made from organic cotton with oversized sleeves and a V neckline, and it is the piece that lets you wear a painting without wearing a gown.
Where to wear it
Indian weddings and festive evenings, where this print belongs and where people will recognise exactly what it is. Diwali, sangeets, receptions. Beyond that: resort dinners, milestone birthdays, and any occasion where the invitation says colourful and you want to be the one who meant it. The top is lighter duty — wear it with white trousers for lunch, or with jeans and gold earrings.
Fabric and care
The Miniature Top is organic cotton: breathable, and it softens with every wash instead of wearing thin. Hand wash gently in cold water with a mild detergent, or dry clean. Hang dry — tumble drying is what shrinks cotton and flattens printed colour. Press on the reverse, and because this print packs violet, emerald and marigold into the same panel, wash the piece on its own the first time so the dyes settle. On fit, the Miniature's oversized sleeves and V neckline sit loosely through the shoulder, so it works across a range of sizes without alteration.
Made in a limited run
Hand-drawn, developed in my studio, then printed and made in small batches with artisans in India. These runs are not repeated. Sizes XS to 3XL, with made-to-measure available on every piece — email your measurements and we will make it to fit you.
