Consider the climate: When choosing resort wear, it is important to consider the climate of the place you will be traveling to. If you are going to a warm-weather destination, you will want to choose pieces that are made from lightweight fabrics such as cotton or linen. If you are going to a cooler-weather destination, you may want to choose pieces that are made from heavier fabrics such as wool or corduroy.
Think about the activities you will be doing: When choosing resort wear, it is also important to think about the activities you will be doing. If you are planning on spending a lot of time at the beach, you will want to choose pieces that are comfortable and easy to move in. If you are planning on exploring a city, you may want to choose pieces that are more stylish and sophisticated.

Resort style and resort wear in 2019 and 2020 has become a style statement for everyone including resort wear for men. My generally conservative dressing husband whose usual wardrobe is all 50 shades of blue, grey and black loves to take his printed light shirts, bright colored t-shirts, neon colored shorts and flip flops to all our holidays.
Resort clothing is generally fun and puts you in a happy mood to relax and enjoy your vacation.
Resort wear refers to vacation wear that's worn at resorts or on cruises. More specifically, the term "elegant resort wear" may be used to discourage choices that are so casual as to be inappropriate. As a general rule, resort style is geared toward warmer weather and walks the line between comfort and elegance. Typically cruise lines and resorts have dress codes for both casual everyday wear, as well as guidelines for evening formal events. While dress codes vary, some general guidelines apply anywhere.
Even during the day, assume that standards of elegance apply. Though you may spend a lot of yourvacationpoolside in a bikini, the bikini isn't appropriate anywhere except the pool and beach. Maxi dresses are excellent for their versatility and can be used as a cover-up or as a classy yet laid-back dress for days in port or walks around town. As an alternative to shorts, wear cropped, fitted capri pants. It's wise to err on the conservative side when the dress code calls for elegant resort casual; avoid risque or otherwise offensive clothing.
Daytime Attire for Men
Khakis or casual slacks with a polo shirt are the rule of thumb when it comes to elegant casual day wear for men. If the resort or cruise is more upscale, your leisure wear need not be more formal, but perhaps of better design and quality. Ball caps and sneakers are fine, as long as they stay outdoors.
Evening Attire for Women
Red carpet-worthy gowns are no longer the norm on cruises and in resorts. Since the early 2000s, when cruise lines such as Norwegian and Oceania introduced more casual guidelines for cruise wear, formal nights have become not only less frequent, but also less formal. Dressy pantsuits or cocktail dresses are usually appropriate, and packing the right accessories can give you a wider range of options. Add glamour to a pantsuit with a pair of killer stilettos, or jazz up a basic dress with a well-matched feather accessory such as a boa or dangling feather earrings.
Evening Attire for Men
Make the distinction between night and day without donning a tuxedo. Dress suits are usually as formal as it gets for cruises and resorts -- unless otherwise specified -- and sometimes a dress shirt and nice slacks are enough. Bring a jacket and tie in case. The GQ Style Guy recommends linen or seersucker suits for warmer climes, and warns that sneakers, sandalsand flip-flops are never acceptable.
Clothing for a Dinner Boat Cruise
Appropriate dinner cruise attire depends upon the cruise line or company's dress code (if one exists) and the type of dinner (seated in a formal dining room versus on deck in a relaxed environment). Some lines specify clothing, while others offer only guidelines, leaving sartorial decisions to your best judgement. In general, however, it is best to err on the side of formality, eschewing jeans and flip-flops for something a little nicer.
The difference between "Resort eveningwear" and "Resort elegant casual" exists, and can be understated. At some resorts, you will need to dress less casual during the evening when going to dinner or a show. Men could plan to wear dressier shorts, pants or nice jeans with a polo or other collared shirt.
Instead of a weeknight dinner, think a weekend date night with your partner. Women can choose a casual dress or pair a blouse with a nice pair of jeans, slacks, or a skirt. Rather than a casual summer dress, opt for slightly more formal attire like a midi silk dress or a pair if pants paired with a blouse. Accessorize your look with fine gold jewelry, heeled strappy sandals, and a wrap for a chic evening on the resort.
For men collarless T-shirts, sleeveless shirts, shorts, are not typically acceptable. Go for a collared dressy shirt with nice pair of trousers and loafers. For shoes, both men and women can choose from elegant sandals or close-toed shoes and avoid wearing flip flops.

Often chosen for weddings and other special events, formal resort dress codes are more similar to what you would wear to a cocktail party like a special occasion dress or a luxury dress. It is a show stopping outfit your inner fashion girl has been waiting for. Don't be afraid to pull out all the stops when you see "formal attire" in the dress code. While a suit is a good idea for men, a nice button-up shirt with a dinner jacket and slacks can be acceptable.
Typically reserved for special holidays such as New Year's Eve, or a destination weddings, anything ranging from a maxi dress to an evening gown or pant suit will suffice. A number of styles are acceptable, including full-length dresses and gowns to a nice pantsuit or skirt with a stylish blouse.
All outfits should be paired with a nice pair of flats or heels.

Resort Clothing Optional
Resort clothing optional places are adult only resorts that let you roam freely without the trouble of putting on clothes. There's a lot to love about clothing-optional resorts: the sexy atmosphere, the ability to sunbathe sans restricting bathing suits, and the (often) fun entertainment.
While the nudist community is still a very niche lifestyle, there are still quite a few nude beaches and even vacation resorts that actually encourage guests to go au naturel.
Perhaps you’re curious about what a clothing optional resort is really like, you want to get some sun without the tan lines, or you just embrace your natural look with a positive body image. Whatever the reason, tropical destinations around the world can offer you this experience. We've found that the more luxurious resorts offer more impressive facilities and sleeker rooms than the mid-range or value options. So whether you want to go completely au naturel or simply avoid tan lines at nude-friendly beach and pool areas, check out our picks for the best luxury kaftans, coverups for clothing-optional resort wear.
Florida Resort Wear for Women
In the fashion world, a designer's resort collection is a harbinger of spring – a summery collection designed for winter escapes to warmer climes. In Florida, resort wear more frequently refers to the brightly colored, summery wardrobe pieces that transition from the beach to the street. Though resort wear isn't an essential part of a Florida vacation, it can certainly be a lot of fun.
Fabric Considerations and Color Options
Resort wear is typically lighter-weight than other fashion, making it a good choice for Florida's balmy weather. You'll often find resort wear versions of classic pieces, like skirts and blazers, rendered in summery fabrics like linen, seersucker or cotton. Lightweight knits are practical because they don't wrinkle in your suitcase, says fashion experts in "O, The Oprah Magazine." Supermodel Doutzen Kroes recommends lightweight denim and cashmere for beach travel in "Harper's Bazaar" magazine.
If you're packing, the most efficient way to plan your resort wear is to organize it around one color family. Opt for white with accessories in bold citrus colors to anchor your beach look, but you could opt for gray, khaki or navy instead. Though black is a versatile color, it can look heavy and dark for resort wear in Florida.
Essential Pieces for beach vacation, cruise or resort
I recommend packing multifunctional layering pieces, including lightweight pants, simple jersey dresses, white jeans and knee-length shorts in addition to a couple of swimsuits. I suggest basing your beach wardrobe around white pants or jeans and simple dresses. Drapey jersey dresses work as a swimsuit cover-up by day and dress up enough for evening cocktails. Consider where you're headed, too: If you're vacationing in an urban area, like Miamior Sarasota, you'll want to include more dress-up pieces than if you're spending your vacationin a more relaxed part of the state, like Mexico Beach or Sanibel Island.
Accessories for Resort Wear looks
Accessories help resort wear transition from poolside to party-ready. I recommend packing small items that can really change the look of an outfit: She likes bubble rings, oversized watches and oversize statement necklaces. A big cashmere wrap in a bold color is practical for cooler evenings or intense air-conditioning. Flip-flops are essential for the pool and acceptable for most daytime activities, but a pair of heeled, strappy sandals will make whatever you're wearing look more dressed up. And if you're doing a lot of walking, slim sneakers or cute flats will come in handy.
