Packing a suitcase with printed designer dresses for a European vacation, Sandhya Garg

Packing for Paris: fewer pieces, better pieces, and at least one dress that stops traffic on the Pont Alexandre III.

Quick Answer

To dress like a fashion blogger in Paris, pack polished, versatile pieces you can re-style — a printed midi or shirt dress, a statement jacket, well-cut trousers or jeans — plus one show-stopping dress for photos, comfortable flats or loafers for miles of walking, and a crossbody bag. Parisians favour quality and ease over costume; skip the beret, add one confident pop of colour, and let a great print be the thing people remember.

Paris is the city every fashion lover wants to dress for — and the one that makes even confident dressers second-guess their suitcase. The good news: dressing like a fashion blogger in Paris isn't about copying a 'French girl' formula. It's about choosing beautiful pieces, wearing them with ease, and walking everywhere looking like you belong.

As a Project Runway designer who trained at London College of Fashion and showed at New York Fashion Week, I've packed for Paris more than once — and our newest collection, Let Them Eat Cake, was literally inspired by Versailles. This guide covers the Paris style myths to ignore, what Paris Fashion Week street style is saying right now, a five-day outfit plan (including a Versailles day trip), photo tips, packing essentials and twelve pieces in sizes XS through 3XL.

Timing is perfect: Paris Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2027 runs from September 28 to October 6, 2026 (Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode), with 68 shows on the official calendar and Louis Vuitton closing the week (Complex). The sidewalks of Paris are the best style classroom in the world right now.

Busting 4 Paris Style Myths

Myth 01

"Wear a beret to blend in"

Truth: A Paris local's guide from World in Paris is blunt about it: in real life, Parisian women don't wear berets. Leave the costume at home.

Myth 02

"Everything has to be black"

Truth: Neutrals are the base, but colour wins photos. Marie Claire spotted the cherry red trend dominating Paris Fashion Week street style.

Myth 03

"You need a trench coat"

Truth: A trench is lovely, not mandatory. A statement jacket or a great blazer does the same job — and makes your photos far more memorable.

Myth 04

"Fashion bloggers wear heels everywhere"

Truth: Paris is a walking city with cobblestones and Métro stairs. The best-dressed visitors wear ballet flats, loafers or sleek sneakers — and save heels for dinner.

What Paris Fashion Week Street Style Says for 2026

The sidewalks outside the shows are where real Paris trends show up first. Here's what editors spotted this year.

🍒 Cherry Red Everything

Reported by Marie Claire

Marie Claire called cherry red a colour that continues to dominate fashion's trend cycle, with Paris street style as proof — along with high-vamp shoes and leather worn beyond winter.

👗 Dresses Over Trousers

Reported by Marie Claire

Parisians have been wearing delicate frocks over pants for a retro, Y2K feel, and pairing feminine skirts with sporty zip-ups (Marie Claire). A mini shirt dress over slim trousers is the easy way in.

🧥 Funnel Necks & Bermudas

Reported by The Zoe Report

At Paris Fashion Week fall/winter 2026, The Zoe Report saw funnel-neck jackets gaining traction and Bermuda shorts worn with knee-high boots — sporty on top, ladylike on the bottom.

🗼 The Paris Uniform, Updated

Reported by Who What Wear

Who What Wear's 2026 street-style coverage has tracked the pieces cool people in Paris are wearing now — and noted Parisian women reaching for winter coats other than the classic trench.

Your 5-Day Paris Outfit Plan

01

Le Marais & café hopping

The Versailles shirt dress over slim black trousers — Paris street style's dress-over-pants look — with loafers and a crossbody. Easy for cobblestones, chic for a long lunch.

02

The Louvre & the Tuileries

The Queen wrap midi with the Fleur tapestry jacket and ballet flats. Museum-friendly sleeves, a jacket for the walk through the gardens.

03

A day trip to Versailles

Wear the collection where it was born: the Carolina or Antonia maxi in Versailles-inspired print, flat sandals for the gardens, and a camera ready for the Hall of Mirrors.

04

Saint-Germain shopping & galleries

The Sophie bell-sleeve midi with the cropped Dauphine bolero and high-vamp flats. Left Bank intellectual, with a print.

05

Seine dinner cruise & the Eiffel Tower at night

The royal blue Marquis maxi, gold earrings and a jacket for the deck. Your final-night photo, with the tower sparkling behind you.

How to Dress for Photos Like a Fashion Blogger

🌅 Shoot Early

Fashion bloggers shoot at sunrise, when landmarks are empty and the light is soft. Plan your photo outfit for the morning, then layer it for the rest of the day.

🎨 Contrast the Stone

Paris is a city of cream limestone and grey zinc roofs. Saturated pinks, royal blue, red and green pop against it; beige disappears.

💃 Choose Movement

A skirt that swings or a sleeve that billows gives you the candid 'caught mid-step' shot. Static, stiff fabrics look posed.

✨ One Hero Accessory

A statement earring, a structured bag or a great pair of sunglasses — one, not three. Let the dress do the talking.

Paris Packing Essentials by Season

🌸 Spring (March–May)

Unpredictable: sun, showers and cool evenings. Midis with sleeves, a light jacket, an umbrella, and pastels that echo the blossoms.

☀️ Summer (June–August)

Warm and bright. Breathable prints, halters and minis over trousers, flat sandals and sunglasses. Pack one dress for a terrace dinner.

🍂 Fall (September–November)

Paris at its most beautiful — and Fashion Week season. Long sleeves, a statement jacket, loafers and richer colours like burgundy and royal blue.

❄️ Winter (December–February)

Chilly and damp. A great coat over a printed midi, tights, boots and one sparkly dress for the holidays.

Year-round: a crossbody bag that zips, comfortable flats you've already broken in, and a jacket that turns a day outfit into an evening one. Heading further afield? See what to wear in Italy and vacation dresses by destination.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do Parisian women wear?

Parisian women favour quality, versatile pieces worn with ease: well-cut trousers and jeans, blazers and statement jackets, simple dresses, ballet flats and loafers, and one standout accessory. The look is polished rather than trendy, and comfortable enough to walk all day.

Do Parisian women wear berets?

Generally, no. Local guides note that berets are rarely worn by Parisian women in everyday life; they read as a tourist costume. A great jacket or a statement earring is a more Parisian finishing touch.

What shoes should I wear in Paris?

Ballet flats, loafers or sleek, low-profile sneakers for the day, since Paris involves a lot of walking, cobblestones and Métro stairs. Save heels or heeled boots for dinner.

What should I wear in Paris in the fall?

Long-sleeve midis or shirt dresses, a statement jacket or blazer, slim trousers or dark jeans, loafers or ankle boots, and richer colours like burgundy, royal blue and cherry red. Evenings can be cool, so always bring a layer.

When is Paris Fashion Week?

Paris Fashion Week women's Spring/Summer 2027 runs from September 28 to October 6, 2026. The Fall/Winter 2027-2028 womenswear shows are scheduled for March 1 to 9, 2027.

What should I wear to visit Versailles?

Comfortable flat shoes for the vast gardens, a dress or outfit you'll love in photos, and a light layer. A Versailles-inspired printed maxi or midi is a fitting choice for the palace and the Hall of Mirrors.
